Acclaimed HBO TV Show Likely Getting Surprise Season 2

An Emmy-winning HBO television show is about to get a surprising renewal despite being a limited series.

Mare of Easttown, an acclaimed HBO TV show, received a promising Season 2 update from star Kate Winslet. While speaking to Deadline, Winslet revealed that there are discussions about a Mare of Easttown Season 2.

What is the Mare of Easttown Season 2 update at HBO?

“They were proper conversations around a timeframe when it could be possible,” Winslet said. “And so I think we probably will do it, and that’s the first time I’ve felt that.”

Originally designed to be a limited series, Mare of Easttown is now heading toward a new season, with a predicted filming date on the horizon.

“It wouldn’t actually be this year. I reckon it would end up being 2027 to film it,” Winslet added. “There’s a strong likelihood it would film sometime in 2027.”

Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby previously contemplated making a second season with Winslet. However, Ingelsby put Season 2 on hold and made Task, an HBO crime drama depicting a cat-and-mouse game between an FBI agent and a criminal.

“Mare’s journey in that show was so emotional,” Ingelsby said via TVLine. “I always like to tell stories that are really emotional, and it’s hard to come up with an emotional story that could compete with losing a son and having to confront that.”

Mare of Easttown stars Winslet as Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective tasked with investigating the murder that shocks the community. During the investigation, Mare grapples with the demons of her past.

“Mare of Easttown is an exploration into the dark side of a close community and an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present,” the HBO logline reads.

Released in April 2021, Mare of Easttown received significant praise, especially for Winslet’s performance and Inglesby’s writing. Mare of Easttown won four Emmys, including acting wins for Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson.
