The episode, titled “Yes, And…,” marked the beginning of a fresh storyline while revealing what happened to Officer Kaya Blanke following her promotion within the NYPD.

Elsbeth Season 3 reveals where Carra Patterson’s Kaya is
The Season 3 premiere of Elsbeth, titled “Yes, And…,” explained Carra Patterson’s absence by revealing that her character, Officer Kaya Blanke, received a promotion from NYPD Officer to undercover agent in a special D.C. task force. Captain Wallace said, “Training starts right away. It will require extensive training in DC and undercover assignments.”
As Deadline reported, Patterson left her series regular role in May 2025 and will return later in the season as a guest star. The episode acknowledged Kaya’s offscreen activities during a scene between Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) and Cameron Clayden (Sullivan Jones). When Elsbeth asked about their “friend,” Cameron replied, “I’m not supposed to say anything,” before adding, “She completed training and has begun her first undercover assignment. And she sounds pretty damn happy about it.”
Kaya will officially return in Episode 3, “Good Grief,” where her undercover work intersects with one of Elsbeth’s cases. CBS released a still from that episode showing Elsbeth and Kaya together but keeping her cover intact. The events in that episode’s finale will set up Kaya’s ongoing arc for the remainder of the season.
Showrunner Jonathan Tolins said, “All I can say is, we love the relationship between Elsbeth and Kaya, and we love Carra Patterson. We hope to see Kaya on the show as much as we can” (via Deadline). Patterson previously said in May, “My character, Kaya Blanke, is embarking on a new adventure as the story continues to unfold… Fans will find out what she’s been up to in her new role as ‘Detective’ next season when I come back to guest star.”
