A month since Apple TV+ announced the official series order of I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennifer Aniston‘s newest TV show is seemingly experiencing some major creative setback. The project is based on iCarly alum Jennette McCurdy‘s bestselling memoir of the same name, which revolves around the former Nickelodeon star’s complicated relationship with her overbearing mother.
What’s the new update for Jennifer Aniston’s new TV show?
According to a new report from Puck, Apple TV+ is searching for a new director for the I’m Glad My Mom Died series, after Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman exited the project on the eve of its planned production start. Reitman reportedly left due to creative differences with McCurdy, who is serving as one of the show’s writers, executive producers, and showrunners.
The outlet’s sources claimed that one of their clashes involved Reitman’s more comedic vision for the show, as well as a “tense exchange” during a casting call. Due to Aniston’s limited time of availability, the streamer’s executives reportedly offered the creative team a week or two to find a suitable replacement for Reitman, or the project will have to be “suspended indefinitely.”
The 10-episode series will be executive produced and written by showrunners McCurdy and Ari Katcher, with Aniston also set as an executive producer. It will follow the “heartbreaking and hilarious recounting of McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother (Aniston).”
