Camryn Manheim Exits Law & Order Cast, Issues Statement

Camryn Manheim is exiting the Law & Order cast, as the veteran Emmy-winning actor will make her final appearance on the show during the season 23 finale which airs on May 16.

Law & Order creator Dick Wolf issued a statement about Manheim’s departure, per Variety, saying: “I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons helping us relaunch Law & Order. She is a class act, and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter.”

In this latest iteration of Law & Order, Manheim played Lieutenant Kate Dixon, a successor to Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson). She was part of the main cast when the police procedural was revived by NBC in 2021. The upcoming finale will serve as Manheim’s 48th and final episode. But prior to that, the actress had her first television role on the original Law & Order in 1991. That was followed by two more guest appearances, as different characters, in 1993 and 1994.

Manheim, known best for her roles on The Practice and Ghost Whisperer, also had roles in shows such as Person of Interest, Stumptown, and the Disney+ sports comedy Big Shot.

Law & Order’s other recent exits

Fans of the seminal procedural will know that news of Manheim’s exit comes after the departure of original star Sam Waterston. The veteran actor exited earlier this year, parting ways with the role of Jack McCoy. Waterson appeared in more than 400 episodes of the original Law & Order, in addition to returning for the revival. Jeffery Donovan also exited his main role as Frank Cosgrove and was replaced by Veep alum Reid Scott.

Law & Order remains a solid performer in the ratings, averaging more than 7 million viewers. It’s produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Rick Eid is the showrunner. Executive producers are Wolf, Pamela Wechsler, Alex Hall, Arthur Forney, and Peter Jankowski.
