Brian Cox Calls the Bible ‘One of the Worst Books Ever’ in Controversial Interview

Succession actor Brian Cox expressed his opinion about religion and the Bible in a recent interview. The 77-year-old spoke about how he believes religion continues to hold humanity back in multiple ways. He describes the Bible as “one of the worst books ever.”

Brian Cox calls the Bible ‘propaganda’

Cox referred to the Bible as “one of the worst books ever” for its “propaganda,” saying that “It’s Adam and Eve, I mean the propaganda goes right way back – the Bible is one of the worst books ever, for me, from my point of view.”

In the latest episode of The Starting Line Podcast, Cox spoke with Rich Leigh. The two talked about religion’s impact on humanity and politics. Cox said that different religions provide different belief systems for people, which in turn hold them back. He then explained:

“They’re not dealing with who we are, we’re dealing with, ‘Oh if God says this and God does that’, and you go, ‘Well what is God?’ We’ve created that idea of God, and we’ve created it as a control issue, and it’s also a patriarchal issue … and it’s essentially patriarchal – we haven’t given enough scope to the matriarchy.”

He went on to express his dislike of the Bible and how it represents narratives that he argues are patriarchal.

The actor continued with Adam’s references from the book, and said that people believe in everything that’s written in it:

“Because it starts with the idea that Adam’s rib – you know that [from] Adam’s rib, this woman was created, and they’ll believe it cause they’re stupid enough.”

He further stated that people need something to believe in, but it has to be complete truth and not lies. Moreover, he called the contents of the Bible mythological, and not factual truth.

Besides Succession, Brian Cox is known for his performances in the films Manhunter, Braveheart, and Troy, among others. Additionally, he is set to appear in multiple upcoming projects including The Electrical State, Unsinkable, and more.
