One Piece Season 2 Update: Netflix Adds Percy Jackson EP as Co-Showrunner

The One Piece Netflix live-action adaptation has added to its creative team, with Deadline reporting that Joe Tracz has joined the team as a co-showrunner.

Tracz, who served as co-executive producer on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ series, will also serve as a writer and executive producer on One Piece. Tracz will work alongside returning showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens, as well as Steve Maeda, who helped develop the series.

One Piece Season 2 is set to begin filming sometime next year, with no clear release date available as of yet. Earlier this month, actor Jacob Romero Gibson — who plays Usopp in the show —and Owens teased the involvement of Little Garden, an island from the manga, appearing in Season 2.

Who’s involved in the live-action One Piece series?

Based on Eiichiro Oda’s manga series, One Piece is written and executive produced by Steven Maeda (The X-Files) and Matt Owens (Agents of SHIELD). It stars Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Joining them are Peter Gadiot as Shanks, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, Vincent Regan as Garp, Steven Ward as Mihawk, and more.

One Piece Season 2 is expected to adapt the Arabasta saga, which will see Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp finally entering the treacherous waters of the Grand Line. Lots of new characters are expect to appear in the next installment, including fan-favorites Tony Tony Chopper, Dr. Kureha, Captain Smoker, Princess Vivi, Nico Robin, Portgas D. Ace, Crocodile, Bon Clay, and more. At the moment, Netflix has not yet made any casting announcements for Season 2, but Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis previously expressed her interest in signing on to play Dr. Kureha.
