Following New Amsterdam’s series finale last year, Deadline brings word that NBC is currently developing a sequel spin-off to the Ryan Eggold-led medical drama titled New Amsterdam: Tomorrow.
The New Amsterdam spin-off is expected to center around Dr. Luna Goodwin, the daughter of Eggold’s Max Goodwin. Set 30 years after the original, the potential sequel will “explore the ways artificial intelligence would help advance the medical industry in the future.” Portrayed by Molly Griggs (Servant, Prodigal Son), the adult version of Luna first appeared during the first installment’s series finale, where she was introduced as New Amsterdam’s newest Medical Director. At the moment, it’s currently unclear if Griggs is attached to reprise the role.
Who’s involved in the New Amsterdam spin-off?
New Amsterdam: Tomorrow hails from original series creator David Schulner, who is developing the potential spin-off through his Mount Moriah banner. Director Peter Horton is also set to return as an executive producer and director. It is a production of Universal Television with Maggie Cahill executive producing.
The original series was inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital. It centered around Dr. Max Goodwin and the challenges he face after becoming the medical director at one of the oldest public hospitals in America. It also starred Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, and Tyler Labine.
