The Punisher MCU Return Teased by Jon Bernthal

Fans have been anxiously awaiting for news on a potential The Punisher return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, actor Jon Bernthal is potentially hinting at seeing it soon.

In a recent post to Instagram, Bernthal shared a photograph of One Batch, Two Batch, a book is revealed to be Frank Castle’s daughter Lisa’s favorite book, which he read her prior to death.

The book first appeared in the fourth episode of Daredevil Season 2, titled “Penny and Dime,” and also served as the origin of The Punisher’s “One Batch, two batch, penny and dime” quote.

Bernthal’s is set to make his MCU return soon

Last year, it was revealed that Bernthal would return to the role in the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again.

In October 2023, it was reported that Daredevil: Born Again was undergoing a “significant creative reboot” after the production break that came from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman were quietly taken off the project alongside the series’ directors, while certain scenes and episodes that were already finished will be retained with further serialized elements added.

Bernthal has spoken about his return as The Punisher recently, telling Collider that it has to be done right for it to work.

“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has,” he stated. “In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me, and I care about that character deeply.

“I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right, and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”
