Cobra Kai Creators: ‘There’s Always Potential to Revisit That World’

Even though the current Cobra Kai storyline will come to an end with Season 6, the show’s creators are already hinting at the future of the hit martial arts series.

Cobra Kai Season 6 marks the end of an era for the Miyagi-verse, with fan-favorite characters saying goodbye to the long-running franchise. Even so, show creators — Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald — tease that they will “go out with a bang” for the last season, making it a wonderful viewing experience for fans.

As for the show’s future, the showrunners revealed in an interview with Collider that there will always be ways to revisit the Miyagi-verse.

“We will never give actual closure when it comes to anything. We love working in the ‘Cobra Kai’ universe, so there’s always potential to revisit that world. We’re certainly thinking about other ideas within the Miyagi-verse, and it’s only a matter of time before we figure out exactly which direction we’re gonna head.”

“We’re really excited about Cobra Kai Season 6. We’re gonna go out with a bang, and it’s gonna be an amazing experience for fans of the franchise,” they added.

What is Cobra Kai about?

Cobra Kai follows Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as they revisit their roles from the classic film franchise, The Karate Kid

The synopsis for Cobra Kai reads: “Thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi.”

Deadline previously revealed that C.S. Lee will be joining Season 6 as Master Kim Sun-Yun. However, there is currently no news regarding the returning cast members, so fans can assume almost all of the main stars of the show could return for Season 6. That includes Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Dallas Dupree Young, Griffin Santopietro, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, Courtney Henggeler, Alicia Hannah-Kim, and Gianni DeCenzo.

The sixth season of Cobra Kai is scheduled to start filming sometime in 2024.
