Tom Hiddleston on Possible MCU Revivals: ‘Death Is up for Grabs’

Loki Season 2 star Tom Hiddleston has hinted at the possibility of characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming back from the dead.

Hiddleston was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where the titular host asked him about the powers that his character, Loki, now has. Season 2 of the Disney+ series showed Loki gaining the ability to “time-slip” back and forth through time, allowing him to go to any period.

Fallon asked Hiddleston if this means that Loki could go back and recruit a deceased character like Iron Man from a time period prior to their death, prompting the star to tease that death may not necessarily be final in the MCU.

“I mean … time-slipping technically gives Loki some interesting moves he can make … Speaking for myself, Loki’s died a few times. I’m still here,” Hiddleston stated. “I don’t know that death is necessarily … I mean death is — death is up for grabs, as an existential question! That’s all I can give you,” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Loki Season 2 was directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who helmed the Moon Knight series. Alongside Hiddleston, it features the return of Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Judge Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, and Jonathan Majors. They were joined by franchise newcomers Ke Huy Quan, Rafael Casal, Game of Thrones’ Kate Dickie, and more.

What was Loki Season 2 about?

“The next season picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority,” reads the synopsis. “Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15, and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous Multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.”
