The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Series Will Introduce a New Type of Walker

In a recent interview with TV Insider, executive producer Greg Nicotero revealed details on the new walker to be introduced in AMC‘s forthcoming The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The spin-off is set to debut September 10 on AMC and AMC+.

He confirmed said mutated walkers will be called “burners,” due to their touch and bite’s burning effect on its victim.

“These zombies have mutated to a point where if they touch or bite you or their blood gets on you, it burns you significantly.” Nicotero said. “It changes all the rules.”

What is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon about?

“Daryl washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why,” reads the logline. “The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will revolve around Norman Reedus‘ beloved Walking Dead character as he finds himself far away from home. Joining Reedus in the series are Clémence Poésy, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, Eriq Ebouaney, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi, newcomer Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, and more.

Recent set photos also confirmed Melissa McBride will reprise her role as Carol despite exiting the role in the project last year.

Based on the comic series of the same name, the horror-drama is executive produced by showrunner David Zabel. Producers are Reedus, Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, and Daniel Percival.
