After renewing the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses for a second season, Disney is adding to its star-studded cast, with Gabriel Iglesias and Eric Stonestreet officially signing on to the series.
Iglesias (Mr. Iglesias) and Stonestreet (Modern Family) join a cast that already stars returning regulars Tim Allen as Santa/Scott Calvin, Elizabeth Mitchell as Mrs. Claus/Carol, Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra Calvin Claus, Austin Kane as Cal Calvin Claus, and Devin Bright as Santa’s elf Noel. Matilda Lawler will also reprise her role as Santa’s chief of staff in a recurring guest role.
Iglesias is set to play Kris Kringle, a man who owns and runs the Christmas-centered theme park Santaland. According to Deadline, Kringle is “sweet, happy, and perpetually-optimistic, Kris is a warm, generous soul who is determined to keep his struggling theme park afloat. However, his belief in Santa and love for all things Christmas may not be enough.”
Stonestreet will play Magnus Antas, aka the Mad Santa. Antas reigned as Santa Claus during the 14th century, and “is now returning to try and take down Scott Calvin and reclaim the North Pole,” per the official character description for the show.
According to Disney, additional guest stars include newcomer Marta Kessler as Olga, a “surly, take-no-prisoners gnome who doesn’t understand ‘feelings’ and ’empathy’ and sidekick to Magnus Antas.” Also set to appear in the second season are returning guest stars Liam Kyle as Gary, Isabella Bennett as Edie, Sasha Knight as Crouton, Ruby Jay as Riley, Mia Lynn Bangunan as Pontoon, and Laura San Giacomo as La Befana, the Christmas Witch.
The first season of The Santa Clauses premiered on November 16, 2022, and served as a sequel series to 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. The series ran for 6 episodes, with the second season currently in production with a likely holiday release planned.
The Santa Clauses hails from executive producer and showrunner Jack Burditt, who is known for his work on hit shows such as 30 Rock, Modern Family, and Frasier. In addition to starring, Tim Allen also executive produced. It is a production by 20th Television. Executive producers are Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina.
