Severance Season 2 Adds Gwendoline Christie, Merritt Wever & More

According to Deadline, production on the highly-anticipated second season of the thriller drama Severance has officially begun. The announcement of the start of filming also comes with the addition of eight new main cast members who are joining lead star Adam Scott in the new installment. This includes Gwendoline Christie, Merritt Wever, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Robby Benson, John Noble, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Stefano Carannante. Further details about their characters are still being kept under wraps.

Severance Season 2 will also feature the return of Oscar winner Patricia Arquette (Boyhood), Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), Emmy Award winner John Turturro (The Night Of), Britt Lower (High Maintenance), Zach Cherry (Succession), Dichen Lachman (Altered Carbon), Jen Tullock (Bless This Mess), Tramell Tillman (Hunters), Michael Chernus (Orange is the New Black) and Academy Award winner Christopher Walken.

“In the first season, Mark Scout leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives,” reads the synopsis. “This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself.”

At the most recent Emmy Awards, Season 1 earned multiple nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for Scott, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Arquette, and Outstanding Directing for Ben Stiller. It bagged two Emmys for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Original Dramatic Score.

Severance is written and created by Dan Erickson, with Ben Stiller (Escape at Dannemora) serving as a director. Executive producers are Stiller, Erickson, Mark Friedman, Chris Black, John Cameron, Andrew Colville, Nicky Weinstock, and Jackie Cohn. It is a production by Endeavor Content and Red Hour Productions, with Arquette and Scott set as producers.
