Marvel’s Werewolf by Night: Michael Giacchino Gives Update on Filming

Not too much is known about Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ special Werewolf by Night, with it still deep in production. However, composer Michael Giacchino recently confirmed that he is directing the Halloween special and gave an update on its status.

“I’ve been having a blast. It’s an incredibly challenging process. I love it,” Giacchino said in an interview with ComicBook. “Everyday, I’ve been having fun working on it and we’re in the middle of it. Hopefully, very soon we’ll share a lot more about it. Yeah. There’s not much I can’t say other than I’m having a good time and I am working on something that I love. So, that’s a win-win right there.”

It had long been rumored that Giacchino was working on the project, but never confirmed by anyone, until now. Most well-known as a composer, Giacchino has worked on the scores of a ton of different films, most notably the hit television series Lost, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, as well as a litany of films in 2022, including The Batman, Jurassic World Dominion, Lightyear, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Currently, not a whole lot is known about the Halloween special, but there have been some rumors that suggest that Mahershala Ali’s Blade — who appeared in a voice-only role in Marvel’s Eternals — will make his on-screen debut in the special. Other rumors also suggest that Elsa Bloodstone, a monster hunter in the world of Marvel Comics, will also appear in the special.

Werewolf by Night is a name that was used by two different Marvel characters. The first one, which was created by Gerry Conway, Mike Ploog, Roy Thomas, and Jeanie Thomas, was Jack Russell, who is a descendant of the Lycanthropes, shapeshifting half-human creatures who are capable of transforming at his own will, even without a full moon.

Meanwhile, the second one was Jake Gomez, a Native American whose tribe has been cursed with lycanthropy. The character of Gomez was created by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff, and Scot Eaton. It’s unclear whether or not either character will be featured in the upcoming special.
