Batman Spin-Off Starring Colin Farrell’s Penguin Begins Filming Soon

Warner Brothers is all in on The Batman. The studio greenlit a sequel to Matt Reeves’ three-hour vision of DC’s Dark Knight, and it is hoping to expand the universe even further with an HBO Max spin-off starring Colin Farrell’s Penguin that’s set to begin filming on June 15, according to a recent production listing.

The production listing, as pointed out by One Take News,  plainly states the shoot date as June 15, in addition to a short synopsis. The show is set to show Penguin’s rise to power over time, likely with an ending that leads right into the character we all already saw on the silver screen.

Upon the initial announcement of the series, Farrell expressed his eagerness to return to the role following the film.

“I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. Will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”

While WB is eager to expand this new version of Gotham City, it’s unclear how Robert Pattinson’s Batman will link up to the rest of their DC Comics film slate. There are heavy rumors that Pattinson’s version of the Bat gets a brief reference in the upcoming Flashpoint, but that’s no guarantee that the character (and Colin Farrell’s Penguin by extension) would ever meet up with other actors playing these legendary heroes.
