Speaking to Deadline during their latest episode of Deadline’s Hero Nation, Gunn said that there is a “really good chance” that HBO and Gunn will partner together for another season of Peacemaker.

“There’s a really good chance of that,” Gunn said. “We’re the biggest show in the world right now … The show is doing extraordinarily well, and we’re excited, we all like doing it, we just need to cross some T’s and dot some I’s, which is basically me.”

Deadline went on to report that Gunn has approached HBO Max about making another series built around one of the characters in Suicide Squad, although that series is still in the very early stages of development. The report did note that HBO Max is “high” on the idea, and given how successful Gunn’s work with the company has been, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them continue working together.

Beyond WWE legend John Cena in the lead role, Peacemaker also stars Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Freddie Stroma. Like Cena, both Agee and Holland’s characters have also previously appeared in The Suicide Squad film.

Additional cast members include Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale), Annie Chang (Shades of Blue), Christoper Heyerdahl (Hell on WheelsSupernatural), Elizabeth Faith Ludlow (The Walking Dead), Rizwan Manji (Goliath),  Nhut Le (The Kroll Show) as DC hero Judomaster, Aison Araya (Arrow) as Amber, and Lenny Jacobson (Nurse Jackie) as Evan.

Based on the characters from DC, the eight-episode first season of Peacemaker is written and created by James Gunn, who directed multiple episodes. Executive producers are Gunn, Cena, Peter Safran, and Matt Miller. It is being produced by Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
