James Gunn’s Peacemaker has been an absolute smash hit for both HBO and the larger DC Extended Universe. In a recent message on social media, Gunn celebrated the fact that the series had surpassed every DC property as the highest-reviewed DCEU project.
Shortly after its debut earlier this month, Peacemaker became the highest-reviewed DCEU project, ranking higher in ratings than every other movie, including Gunn’s latest film Suicide Squad. Taking to Twitter, Gunn thanked everyone involved in the series and said that he was “moved” by how people are reacting to the series.
Beyond WWE legend John Cena in the lead role, Peacemaker also stars Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Freddie Stroma. Like Cena, both Agee and Holland’s characters have also previously appeared in The Suicide Squad film.
Additional cast members include Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale), Annie Chang (Shades of Blue), Christoper Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels, Supernatural), Elizabeth Faith Ludlow (The Walking Dead), Rizwan Manji (Goliath), Nhut Le (The Kroll Show) as DC hero Judomaster, Aison Araya (Arrow) as Amber, and Lenny Jacobson (Nurse Jackie) as Evan.
Based on the characters from DC, the eight-episode first season of Peacemaker is written and created by James Gunn, who directed multiple episodes. Executive producers are Gunn, Cena, Peter Safran, and Matt Miller. It is being produced by Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
