Johnny Knoxville on How WWE Royal Rumble Spot Came Together, Reveals Favorite Wrestlers

Speaking during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Knoxville dove into his recent appearances on WWE programming, as well as who his favorite wrestlers were.

“Besides me, man…I would say probably Abdullah the Butcher, Gorilla Monsoon was a hell of a wrestler,” Knoxville said before explaining how he got involved with WWE.

“Well, we were doing a promotion backstage at the WWE,” Knoxville said. “And their head writer took me and Jeff Tremaine out in the hall, and he’s like, ‘You want to make a run for the Rumble?’ I was like ‘Yeah. What do you mean?’ And he was like ‘The Royal Rumble!’ and I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, for sure!’ And so then I’ve just been training 24/7, Howard, been flipping huge truck tires over the fence, the neighbors are so angry. Truck tires weigh about the same as that pretty boy Austin Theory.”

Knoxville also touched on the fact that his goal for the Royal Rumble isn’t necessarily to win, but instead to make sure the other WWE superstars have a much harder time.

“I’m going to walk in the ring and make their life a living hell, Howard,” said Knoxville, before revealing how much fun he’s having. “It’s the most fun thing, I wake up every morning and I’m talking s— all day long. I spend a lot of my time on the WWE Instagram arguing with people, it’s so fun. It’s brought out this childhood thing in me…Johnny is not acting, Johnny is fully on board, Johnny has left the building.”

WWE’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view is set to kick off at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 29, 2022, and will be available to watch live on the Peacock streaming service.
