WWE 2K22 Gets Release Date, Gameplay Trailer

Publisher 2K and developer Visual Concepts have announced the WWE 2K22 release date that was previously only a vague release window. The game will release on March 11, 2022 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and prices will range depending on what system players buy it on. 2K also released a new trailer showcasing some gameplay from the upcoming wrestling title.

The new trailer for the game doesn’t show off a whole lot, but does highlight the redesigned engine the game will be using and stresses that this game was was made with both the developer and WWE superstars joining forces in an effort to “hit different.”

Following the particularly rough launch of WWE 2K20 — which saw the game launch as a broken, glitchy game that was quickly panned by fans and critics — the WWE 2K series took a year off, with the release of WWE 2K21 being canceled to instead focus on fixing the issues throughout the series.

Perhaps most importantly, the first thing that Visual Concepts did was redesign the engine for WWE 2K22 from the ground up. The team says that every dive, finisher, and attack should feel more realistic than in previous years and users will be able to be felt as soon as they pick up the controller.

New control options will also be available in the game, with a new configuration aimed to ensure players have more control over what they’re doing in the ring. Graphical overhauls have also been done, with Visual Concept saying these are the “best-ever” graphics for the franchise. However, some have criticized the facial animations in the trailer for being stiff. Finally, the MyGM mode found in the game has been overhauled, although it’s currently unclear just what has been added into it as of now.

Alongside the trailer and release date, four different versions of WWE 2K22 were announced, including:

  • A Standard Edition for $59.99 on previous-gen platforms and PC and $69.99 on current-gen consoles
  • A Cross-Gen Bundle for $79.99 that includes both the Standard Edition as well as the ’96 Rey Mysterio Pack for both previous and current-gen platforms.
  • A Deluxe Edition for $99.99 that includes the Standard Edition and the Undertaker Immortal Pack, a special Season Pass that gives players access to all five post-launch DLC packs, MyRISE Mega-Boost and SuperCharger packs, and limited edition content for the WWE SuperCard game.

The nWo 4-Life Digital Edition also includes the WCW Souled Out 1997 and WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 arenas, as well as the nWo Wolfpac Championship. This edition is also available starting on March 8, 2022, three days earlier than the standard release date.
