Live-Action Blade Runner and Alien Series in the Works From Ridley Scott

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today, acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott revealed that he is currently developing two live-action TV projects based on two of his iconic sci-fi films, Blade Runner and Alien. He confirmed that both shows are in the same development stage, with the pilot screenplays already completed.

“We have already written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible,” Scott said. “So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, probably the first 10 hours.”

This marks the first time that Scott has mentioned the live-action Blade Runner series, which had been previously rumored earlier this year. It’s still unclear where the said project is being developed as further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps.

The 1982 film was directed by Scott from a screenplay written by Hampton Fancher, and David Peoples, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel titled Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Led by Harrison Ford, the film is set in a dystopian future where a former cop Rick Deckard has been tasked to hunt down a fugitive group of advanced synthetic humans called replicants.

Due to its critical success, it became a cult classic which led to a sequel titled Blade Runner 2049, which was released 35 years after the first film. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the 2017 sequel featured the return of Ford, who was joined by Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas.

As for the Alien series, the project was first confirmed nearly a year ago during Disney’s Investors Day. It is being developed by Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott for FX Networks, with Hawley to helm the project.

Set not too far into our future, it’s the first Alien story set on Earth — and by blending both the timeless horror of the first Alien movie with the non-stop action of the second, it’s going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats. The project is produced by FX Productions.

Released in 1979, Alien was led by Academy Award-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver, who became a pop culture icon for her performance as the fearless and badass Ellen Ripley. Due to its success, it was followed by five more sequels which have a combined gross of over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
