XO, Kitty: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before TV Spin-Off Greenlit at Netflix

Netflix has officially granted a series order to the upcoming To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spin-off series titled XO, Kitty, which hails from creator and author Jenny Han. The announcement comes after eight months since the popular teen rom-com franchise had concluded its film trilogy with To All the Boys: Always and Forever.

The project has been in development since last April. It is expected to turn the spotlight on the youngest Covey sister, portrayed by Anna Cathcart, who is set to reprise the fan-favorite character. It’s still unclear whether or not, some of the film’s cast would also be making an appearance in the series.

XO, Kitty will be a half-hour long YA comedy-drama series that will be led by Anna Cathcart in her first major TV project as the lead. It is created and executive produced by Jenny Han, who is also set as showrunner with Sascha Rothchild.

“Teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love,” reads the synopsis. “But when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, she’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line.”

The breakout character played a pivotal part in the first film as she was the one who secretly sent out all of Lara Jean’s love letters to her former crushes and current crush. During the first two installments, she was shown to have no interest in having a love life due to her young age at the time. However, in the final movie, Kitty was able to meet her first boyfriend named Dae while on a trip to South Korea.

XO, Kitty is a production by ACE Entertainment and Awesomeness Studios. It will be executive produced by Rothchild, and Matt Kaplan of ACE Entertainment. The pilot will be co-written by Han and Siobhan Vivian.

Based on Han’s best-selling book series, the film trilogy starred Lana Condor (Deadly Class), Noah Centineo (Black Adam), John Corbett (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll), Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars), and 13 Reasons Why‘s Ross Butler. It was a breakout hit for Netflix, garnering solid viewership across all three films and receiving highly positive reviews from critics across the board.
