According to a recent report from Deadline, Flanagan and Netflix have agreed to a series order for a limited horror drama known as The Fall of the House of Usher. The series will reportedly be based on multiple works from legendary author Edgar Allan Poe. The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story written by Poe that was first published in 1839 and deals with the themes of madness, family, isolation, and more.

The report notes that Flanagan will also direct the series and serve as executive producer alongside Trevor Macy, Emmy Grinwis, and Michael Fimognari. Flanagan’s relationship with Netflix has been going strong for years now, with the director having worked on a handful of horror projects for the company, with his most recent, Midnight Mass, having released late last month.

Midnight Mass centers around an isolated island community and how they react following the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest. “It tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man and the arrival of a charismatic priest,” reads the official synopsis. “When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?”
