Midnight Mass Teaser Sets Date for Mike Flanagan’s Netflix Horror Series

Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Mike Flanagan’s newest horror limited series Midnight Mass, which is slated to make its debut on September 24.

Unlike the filmmaker’s previous Haunting of series that centered around haunted houses, the Midnight Mass teaser now takes us to an isolated island community called Crockett Island and gives us our first look at its characters. The video, which you can check out in the player below along with first-look images, also highlights some of the sinister things that fans should expect to see in Crocket Island.

In addition to the teaser and images, Flanagan also went on to express his excitement with the upcoming series in a letter to fans, revealing that it’s his most favorite project to date.

Midnight Mass hails from creator and director Mike Flanagan. It centers around an isolated island community that miraculous events – and frightening omens – following the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest. It will once again served as a reunion between Flanagan and some of his collaborators from the Haunting of series including Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas, Robert Longstreet, Samantha Sloyan, Alex Essoe, and Annabeth Gish.

“It tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man and the arrival of a charismatic priest,” reads the official synopsis. “When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?”

The 7-episode series will also be led by Zach Gilford and Hamish Linklater. It will also feature Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Annarah Cymone, Kristin Lehman, Rahul Abburi, Igby Rigney, and Michael Trucco.

Midnight Mass is executive produced by Flanagan and Trevor Macy. It is part of Intrepid Pictures’ multi-year TV deal with Netflix. The filmmaker is also currently working on another anthology horror series for the streamer titled The Midnight Club which is based on Christopher Pike’s YA novels.
