Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Has Already Wrapped Production

Coming off from successfully winning his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his performance in Netflix’s Halston, Ewan McGregor gave an update regarding his highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. During the 2021 Emmys, while speaking to the press backstage, McGregor went on to confirm that production on Lucasfilm’s newest live-action Star Wars series for Disney+ has finally been completed after nearly five months of filming in Los Angeles. He also continues to hype up the project, teasing that fans won’t be disappointed, especially with the cool new technology that they’ve employed during its production.

“We finished shooting our series, and it was really, really good fun,” McGregor said (via Deadline). “I really enjoyed working with Deborah Chow, and I think it will not disappoint. The new technology that we employed doing it is cool, and it was a different experience than making the original three films that I did.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi will see the return of Ewan McGregor to the Star Wars universe as he reprises his iconic role as the titular Jedi master, which he famously portrayed in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy. It also features the return of fellow Star War alums Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars.

Joining the returning Star Wars alums are franchise newcomers Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Sung Kang (F9: The Fast Saga), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (The French Dispatch), Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets), Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems) and Maya Erskine (PEN15).

The story is expected to take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, where we last saw Obi-Wan delivering the infant Luke Skywalker to his Tatooine homestead. Further details about the series’ plot are still scarce. Still, it might potentially explore Obi-Wan’s life on Tatooine between Episodes III and IV, which were previously explored in a few Star Wars novels and comics.
