It’s been known for some time that writer/director David Wain has been looking to return to the world of his 2001 cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer, which brought together much of the talent from MTV’s 1990s sketch comedy show “The State.” Today, Variety reports that such a project is finally moving forward, but is now planning to go the small screen route and will instead arrive as a ten-episode series on Netflix.
The original film’s cast — which includes Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Ian Black, David Hyde Pierece, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Michael Showalter and Joe Lo Truglio — is expected to return for the new show. Even though the storyline will take place prior to the event of the original film, the actors will all play high school versions of themselves.
Wain and Showalter are expected to executive produce. Check back soon for official confirmation and additional details!
