The Omen Heads to the Small Screen with Damien

The Antichrist has found new life on the small screen. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Lifetime is developing a new series, “Damien,” based on Richard Donner’s 1976 horror classic, The Omen. Glen Mazzara is scripting and executive producing. An adult Damien will serve as the story’s protagonist as he comes to grips with his demonic destiny.

The original The Omen was followed by three sequels (the last of which hit in 1991 as a television movie) and a big screen remake in 2006. A television series was previously planned in 1995, but failed to develop beyond the pilot stage (which itself had little connection to the franchise outside of the title).

Mazzara is no stranger to the world of horror. In addition to serving as former showrunner on “The Walking Dead,” he’s attached to provide the screenplay for Warner Bros. Pictures’ proposed The Shining prequel, The Overlook Hotel.
