Judge Judy Sheindlin Left CBS Because She Felt Disrespected

Judge Judy Sheindlin has been a staple of daytime television for nearly three decades, but after 25 years, she’s planning on departing her iconic CBS show.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sheindlin said that tensions between herself and CBS forced her to leave her long-running courtroom reality show. According to her, most of the issues seem to stem from CBS buying out Sheindlin’s ownership shares of Judge Judy reruns. This was likely done in an effort to prevent Sheindlin from shopping the show’s extensive library elsewhere, and something Sheindlin didn’t like.

In the interview, Sheindlin noted that she felt “disrespected” by CBS due to their work on Hot Bench, another courtroom show that Sheindlin created in 2014. In an effort to make room for The Drew Barrymore Show, a handful of CBS-owned stations “in major markets” bumped Hot Bench, which Sheindlin took as a massive sign of disrespect.

“You disrespected my creation,” Sheindlin said in regards to the Hot Bench moves. “And you were wrong. Not only in disrespecting my creation, but your gamble in what you put in its place. We had a nice marriage,” she added. “It’s going to be a Bill and Melinda Gates divorce.”

In response to the news, CBS Media Ventures president Steve LoCasci told The Wall Street Journal that it was an honor working with Sheindlin, and there will never be another person like her. “We have had an incredibly successful relationship with Judy over the last 25 years. It has been an honor representing her show, and just like there has never been another Oprah, there will never be another Judge Judy.”

For fans of Sheindlin, the Judge isn’t retiring, and will instead be working on a new show, Judy Justice, on the Amazon-owned IMDb TV. No information for the show has been released just yet, so fans will have to wait to see when they can catch it.
