Prepare For the Final Battle in Money Heist Season 5 First-Look Photos

Netflix has released first-look photos for the first half of the upcoming fifth and final installment of Money Heist, which will be available for streaming on September 3. The photos, which you can check out below, provides us a glimpse at the much more intense season, featuring the gang going up against an unidentified enemy, while also teasing their final battle against the government.

In Money Heist Season 5, the gang has been shut in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours. They have managed to rescue Lisbon, but their darkest moment is upon them after losing one of their own. The Professor has been captured by Sierra and, for the first time, doesn’t have an escape plan. Just when it seems like nothing else could go wrong, an enemy comes on the scene that is much more powerful than any they’ve faced: the army. The end of the greatest heist in history is approaching, and what began as a robbery will turn into a war.

In a recent interview with EW, creator and showrunner Alex Pina confirmed that the weight of Nairobi’s surprising death last season will be felt more by the gang in the upcoming episodes as they grapple with the heartbreaking loss by waging full-on war against the authorities and the system.

“Nairobi represented the heart of the gang in a way, and in this last season [she] would have had a hard time fitting in because this is a season of direct confrontation. But her legacy is going to inspire the other characters,” Pina said.

Money Heist, or La casa de papel, centers around a group of thieves led by The Professor, who wears a Salvador Dali mask and a red jumpsuit and take on names of different cities in order to conceal their identities. In Part 1 and 2, they take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain as a criminal mastermind manipulates the police to carry out his plan. In Part 3 and 4, Lives are on the line as the Professor’s plan begins to unravel, and the crew must fend off enemies from both inside and outside the Bank of Spain.

The series stars Álvaro Morte as The Professor,  Úrsula Corberó as Tokyo, Itziar Ituño as Lisbon, Pedro Alonso as Berlin, Alba Flores as Nairobi, Miguel Herrán as Rio, Jaime Lorente as Denver, Esther Acebo as Stockholm, Darko Perić as Helsinki, and Paco Tous as Moscow. It also features Hovik Keuchkerian as Bogota, Rodrigo de la Serna as Martin Berrote, Najwa Nimri as Alicia Sierra, Luka Peros as Marseille, Belen Cuesta as Manila, Fernando Cayo as Colonel Tamayo, and Enrique Arce as Arturo Roman.

Season 5 will be divided into two volumes which are both set to debut later this year. Vol. 1 will premiere on September 3, while Vol. 2 will wrap up the global hit series on December 3. It will also see the introduction of Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Sense8) and Patrick Criado as they join the fan-favorite roster of returning series regulars.

Money Heist is created by Álex Pina, who is also serving as an executive producer along with Sonia Martínez, Jesús Colmenar, Esther Martínez Lobato and Nacho Manubens. In 2018, the series became the most-watched non-English language series and one of the most-watched series overall on Netflix.

Due to its success, Netflix has set a 12-episode Korean adaptation of the hit series from BH Entertainment and Contents Zium. The streamer has also unveiled its complete cast, which will be led by Yoo Ji-Tae as the Professor, Park Hae-Soo as Berlin, and Jun Jung-Seo as Tokyo. Production is currently underway on the South Korean adaptation.
