Freddie Stroma will be taking over Chris Conrad’s role in HBO Max’s The Suicide Squad spinoff show, Peacemaker.

According to Deadline, Stroma will play Vigilante. Also known as Adrian Chase, the once lawyer began taking the law into his own hands after losing faith in the system he once served when his family’s killer was let free. In addition to his hand-to-hand combat expertise, Vigilante has the ability to heal quickly and regenerate his body after receiving some serious damage. The character was originally created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, and first appeared in New Teen Titans Annual #2.

Conrad was set to play the role of Peacemaker‘s Vigilante. However, he left the project amicably due to creative differences.

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn will write Peacemaker, as well as direct several episodes. Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Miller will executive produce the upcoming series. John Cena, who will play the titular character in the series and upcoming film, will serve as co-executive producer. It will be produced by Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.

As mentioned above, Peacemaker is a spinoff of the upcoming Gunn-directed DCEU movie The Suicide Squad. It will be a sort of origin story for the character Peacemaker. Alongside Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Christopher Heyerdahl, Jennifer Holland, Robert Patrick, and Chukwudi Iwuji are set to star in the series.

Stroma has appeared in several films such as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Pitch Perfect, and 13 Hours. More recently, he has appeared in both The Crew and Bridgerton.

Peacemaker is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in January 2022. You’ll be able to see Cena as the vigilante in The Suicide Squad on August 6, 2021.
