Netflix has officially announced that production on the upcoming third season of their hit psychological thriller series You has finally been completed after filming was delayed for two weeks earlier this year due to the ongoing pandemic. The filming wrap also comes on the heels of Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos previously confirming that the Penn Badgley-led series is indeed making its return later this year.
In addition, showrunner Sera Gamble also took to Twitter to celebrate the end of filming by praising the cast and crew’s hard work and resilience while also sharing how the production persevered during the pandemic. She also went on to tease the new season’s bonkers episodes and insanely good performances.
Based on Caroline Kepnes’s novel series, You centers around Joe Goldberg, a toxic and delusional stalker who has the tendency of becoming extremely obsessed with every girl he falls in love with. Season 1 follows Joe as a male bookstore manager who becomes deeply infatuated with aspiring writer Beck to the point of him eliminating all the obstacles that will get in the way of his romance with her. Meanwhile, in Season 2, following the events of the first season, Joe Goldberg (Badgley) moves to Los Angeles, where he meets aspiring chef Love Quinn, who is uninterested in social media the way his previous love interest was.
You Season 3 will continue to follow the complicated relationship of Joe and Love, who are expecting their first child together in their new suburban home. It will now be led by Penn Badgley (Margin Call, Gossip Girl) and Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor).
Joining them are Tati Gabrielle, Travis Van Winkle, Saffron Burrows, Dylan Arnold, Scott Speedman, Michaela McManus, Shannon Chan-Kent, Christopher O’Shea, Christopher Sean, Mackenzie Astin, Ayelet Zurer, Jack Fisher, Mauricio Lara, and Scott Michael Foster.
Developed by Sera Gamble & Greg Berlanti based on the book by Caroline Kepnes, You launched as a Lifetime series with Netflix as SVOD/international partner. Starting with Season 2, You will be a Netflix original. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions, Man Sewing Dinosaur, and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television. Berlanti, Gamble, Sarah Schechter, Leslie Morgenstein, Gina Girolamo, and Marcos Siega are executive producers.
Seasons 1 and 2 are already available for streaming on Netflix.
