Disney+’s She-Hulk Adds Hamilton Star Renée Elise Goldsberry

As Marvel Studios continues to prepare for the impending production start of She-Hulk, Deadline brings word that Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry has been tapped to star opposite Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany in Disney+’s highly-anticipated MCU series. Specific details about her character are still being kept under wraps, but she is set to portray the role of Amelia. The Tony-winning actress will also next be seen in Peacock’s upcoming sitcom Girls5eva, which hails from the 30 Rock creators.

In the comics, Amelia Voght and Amelia Hopkins were the only notable Marvel characters that have a connection with the Jade Giant. Voght is known as a mutant and a S.W.O.R.D. agent who had a few run-ins with She-Hulk. Meanwhile, Hopkins was a character that only appeared in the solo She-Hulk comics. However, it’s still possible that neither of said characters will appear in the MCU series as Goldsbery’s Amelia might be a code name for a secret Marvel character, or might also be an entirely new character created just for the series.

The She-Hulk series was officially announced by Marvel’s chief creative officer Kevin Feige last year along with two other MCU shows Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight. This marks the iconic superheroes’ live-action debut who are also expected to be featured in future MCU films.

Led by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Tatiana Maslany who will take on the titular role as Jennifer Walters, the project is being described as a legal comedy that will consist of ten half-hour long episodes. Joining Maslany is MCU star Mark Ruffalo as he returns as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Tim Roth has also joined the series, who will be reprising his role as Abomination from the Edward Norton-led The Incredible Hulk.

The series is being developed and written by Jessica Gao, who is the Emmy-winning scribe behind Rick and Morty‘s acclaimed Season 3 episode “Pickle Rick.” Kat Cairo (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dead to Me) and Anu Valia have also signed to direct and executive produce.

She-Hulk debuted in Marvel Comics’ “Savage She-Hulk” #1 in 1980, created by writer Stan Lee and artist John Buscema. Her alter ego is Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner/Hulk, who after being shot is provided a blood transfusion from Bruce that turns her into a similar creature.
