Limited Series About U.S. Capitol Insurrection in the Works at Showtime

According to Deadline, Showtime is currently in the process of developing a brand new limited series that will center around the unbelievably horrible events that transpired during January 6, 2021, when the U.S. Capitol was attacked by a mob of insurrectionists. Showtime has already ordered three scripts for the untitled series which hails from Billy Ray and Shane Salerno This marks the duo’s latest collaboration with the network after working together on last year’s political drama miniseries The Comey Rule.

The hour-long limited series will examine and explore multiple points of view of the events leading up to the January 6 attack, including the final days of the Trump administration, and culminate with the attack itself, the aftermath, and the FBI and Congressional investigations. The narrative is still unfolding and arrests of those who breached the Capitol and assaulted police are still being made.

The U.S. Capitol attack was incited by former President Donald Trump after giving a speech about groundless claims of a stolen election. MAGA supporters forcedly stormed the Capitol while the legislators were certifying Joe Biden’s overwhelming presidential victory against Trump. As a result, senators and congressmen along with their staffs were immediately evacuated to a secured location while the rioters vandalized the property including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Most rioters were armed and some were carrying zip-tie handcuffs with the intention to cause violence against lawmakers. The attack also resulted in the death of five people including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who was hit with a fire extinguisher by Trump supporters.
