Citadel: Stanley Tucci joins The Russo Brothers’ new Amazon spy series
According to Collider, Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci (Supernova) has officially signed on to star in the Russo Brothers’ upcoming global event series titled Citadel. In addition, Danish actor Roland Møller (Skyscraper) has also been cast for the role Laszlo Milla, a lead operative of the Manticore, which is the rival intelligence agency of the Citadel. Tucci and Møller will be joining previously announced cast members Richard Madden (Bodyguard), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (We Can Be Heroes) and Ashleigh Cummings (NOS4A2). The Amazon Studios project is set as a global spy thriller that will be told through multiple shows around the world including Italian and Indian versions.
Tucci will next be seen in 20th Century Studios’ long-delayed The King’s Man prequel and the action film Jolt starring alongside Kate Beckinsale. He is also set to lend his voice in Disney+’s upcoming MCU animated series What If…? which is set to debut sometime this year.
The multiple installments that will be featured in Citadel will be taking place in the United States, Italy, India, and Mexico with each version told in the countries’ local language. The U.S. edition is reportedly set to interconnect with the other versions.
The global event series will be written and executive produced by Midnight Radio’s Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo will also be serving as executive producers along with Patrick Moran and Mike Larocca. The Italian edition will be a co-production between Amazon Studios and ITV Studios’ Cattleya. While the Indian version will be developed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.
Madden gained worldwide recognition for his role as Rob Stark in the first three seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones. In 2018, he received his first Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in BBC’s Bodyguard. Madden will next be seen in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated film The Eternals starring alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, and Gemma Chan.
Chopra Jonas is no stranger to the action genre as she first starred in ABC’s Quantico which ran on air for three seasons. Citadel will mark the Indian actress’ first major TV project since Quantico aired its last season in 2018.
