Boba Fett Series: Mandalorian Spinoff Rumored for Disney+

According to Deadline, Disney and Lucasfilm could be developing a Boba Fett series for Disney+ — and it could start filming soon, depending on which sources you listen to. Obviously, most of this is just speculation, but considering some of the plot elements featured in the first episode of The Mandalorian, it seems reasonable to assume everyone’s favorite bounty hunter will finally gets his own spinoff.

Much of the speculations stems from recent talk that a third season of The Mandalorian has been in pre-production for months now with series director and executive producer Jon Favreau stating his desire to begin shooting before the end of 2020. However, some sources are suggesting the next season will be pushed to spring 2021 to make way for the aforementioned Boba Fett series, which would begin filming next week. Temuera Morrison would in theory reprise his role, which he previously voiced in the re-edited The Empire Strikes Back as well as portraying Jango Fett, the man Boba was cloned from, in 2002’s Attack of the Clones as well as portraying other clones in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith.

Lucasfilm is keeping details about either project a secret, though it was recently announced that Sophie Thatcher would join The Mandalorian franchise in an unspecified role. Whether that means the main series or a potential spinoff series set in The Mandalorian timeline remains to be seen.

As if that weren’t enough, Disney+ is also developing a female-centered Star Wars series with Leslye Headland; and seems intent on creating a number of offshoots featuring characters from The Mandalorian, namely Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano.

In other words, we’ll just have to wait for the official word.
