Elle Fanning’s The Great renewed for a second season at Hulu
According to Deadline, Hulu has decided to renew creator Tony McNamara’s period comedy drama series The Great for a 10-episode second season. This renewal comes after over a month since the Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult-led series had debuted which was first previously intended as a limited series.
The Great is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great through the 18th Century Russia from outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history. Season One is a fictionalized, fun and anachronistic story of an idealistic, romantic young girl, who arrives in Russia for an arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter. Hoping for love and sunshine, she finds instead a dangerous, depraved, backward world that she resolves to change. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military and get the court onside. A very modern story about the past which encompasses the many roles she played over her lifetime as lover, teacher, ruler, friend, and fighter.
The series stars Elle Fanning (Super 8, Maleficient) as Catherine the Great, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Russian emperor Peter, Phoebe Fox (Eye in the Sky, One Day) as Marial, Adam Godley (Breaking Bad), Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody) as Grigor, Charity Wakefield (Bounty Hunters, Sense & Sensibility), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful) and Sacha Dhawan (After Earth, Iron Fist).
The Great is written and executive produced by Tony McNamara (The Favourite) with Matt Shakman (Game Of Thrones) serving as the director. Fanning and Marian Macgowan are also set as executive producers.
