Never Have I Ever renewed for a second season at Netflix
Netflix has officially renewed creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher’s coming-of-age series Never Have I Ever for a second season. This renewal comes after over two months since the comedy series had made its debut. In addition, the streamer has also released a new video which you can check out below, featuring lead star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as she tells the cast about the good news.
Inspired by Kaling’s own childhood, Never Have I Ever is a 10-episode coming-of-age series that will follow the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl. The series stars Canadian newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi, an overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations.
The series will also star Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of) as Devi’s mom named Nalini, Richa Moorjani (9-1-1) as Kamala, Benjamin Norris (The Pregame) as Trent Harrison, Adam Shapiro (Sense8) as Mr. Shapiro, Ramona Young (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as Eleanor, Martin Martinez (Marvel’s Runaways) as Oliver, Jaren Lewison as Ben, Christina Kartchner as Eve and Jack Seavor McDonald as Erick Perkins.
Never Have I Ever is co-created and co-written by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine). 3 Arts’ Howard Klein and David Miner will be executive producing along with Kaling and Fisher, who are also set to be the series’ showrunners. The project will mark the second collaboration between Kaling and Fisher, who have both worked on the romantic-comedy series The Mindy Project.
Kaling is best known for her work as an actor, writer, director and producer in comedy TV shows such as The Office opposite Steve Carell and John Krasinski; and The Mindy Project starring alongside Chris Messina (Birds of Prey), Ed Weeks and Anna Camp. Her writing for The Office earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
