Mindy Kaling, the creator of Hulu’s new comedy series Not Suitable for Work, recently spoke about the show’s Season 2 status and discussed potential exits and returns. Mindy Kaling on Not Suitable for Work Season 2 renewal and cast

The Primetime Emmy nominee detailed the current status of the Hulu show’s sophomore season and prospective departures and returns of various cast members.

While the streaming platform hasn’t officially renewed Not Suitable for Work for Season 2, Mindy Kaling revealed to Deadline that they have already set the writers’ room for the next chapter.

Kaling stated, “Of course, the big question is whether we’ll get an official pickup for production, I keep my fingers crossed. I love the show so much, I’m so glad that it’s doing well. One of the things that has made me so happy is how much the cast loves the show, and the writing staff loves the show, and the way that the cast expresses their love through all the social content that they’ve been doing.”

“I love the show so much, so I’d love to keep making it for years and years, and yes, I’m right now just keeping my fingers crossed,” Kaling added.

Later in the interview, the Late Night star spoke about Jay Ellis’ Bill Gibson, underscoring his importance in the narrative and expressing her hope that he could return for the show’s Season 2.

Mindy Kaling also teased where Avantika Vandanapu’s Abhinaya “Abby” Chilukuri and Nicholas Duvernay’s Kel Washington’s storyline could go in Not Suitable for Work Season 2.

“I think that coming up next season, should we get another season, it will be fun for Kel to realize that that’s why she was there, and that he might have blown his opportunity,” Kaling said. “But also Kel will have other opportunities now, he has a real job, a cool job in New York, and he has clout. He’s obviously really good looking and smart, so he will have other opportunities himself as will Abby.”

Notably, Not Suitable for Work currently has a 52% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, the show ranks at the #6 spot on Hulu TV show list as of June 24, 2026, according to FlixPatrol.
