Showrunner Scott Gimple Talks About What’s Next on The Walking Dead

Warning: Spoilers for the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead.

If you were a loyal reader of “The Walking Dead” comics, then what happened in the midseason finale shouldn’t have come as much of a shock to you. With the prison now overrun and Rick’s infant daughter Judith missing, things aren’t looking too bright for the show’s lead character, and according to showrunner Scott Gimple, things aren’t going to be better overnight.

“It’s going to hit [Rick] in a way that we haven’t seen before,” Gimple told TV Guide. “If it’s just the two of them, [Carl is] going to have to step up quite a bit because circumstances are wildly different and a lot will depend on him in terms of them just surviving. They don’t have an awesome, dual-layer fence and brick buildings to hide behind. They’re out in the world.”

“The Walking Dead” Season 4 will return to AMC on February 9, 2014.
