Mark-Paul Gosselaar Returning as Zack Morris in Peacock’s Saved by the Bell Revival

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Saved by the Bell‘s original lead star Mark-Paul Gosselaar has officially signed on to reprise his iconic role as Zack Morris in Peacock’s upcoming revival series. In addition, Tiffani Thiessen, who is one of the original’s main cast members, is currently in talks with Universal Television to return as Kelly Kapowski.

According to the outlet’s sources, Gosselaar will also be serving as an executive producer and might only be able to appear in three episodes due to his commitment as a series regular on ABC’s Mixed-ish.

Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls) and Mario Lopez (The X Factor) will reprise their iconic roles as Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater in the upcoming series. Joining the returning cast members are John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect) as the new principal of Bayside and Josie Totah (Jessie, Glee, Champions) who is set to take on the lead role of Lexi. Her character is described as a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High, who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.

Tracy Wigfield (Great News) is attached to write and executive produce. Peter Egel and Franco Bario will serve as executive producers for the Universal Television project. The Saved by the Bell revival’s official logline reads: “When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”
