Developed by Greg Daniels, the series depicted the everyday lives of the employees of the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Co. The film featured an ensemble cast of up-and-comers including Steve Carell (Beautiful Boy), Rainn Wilson (The Meg), John Krasinski (A Quiet Place), Jenna Fischer (Splitting Up Together), B.J. Novak (The Founder), Ed Helms (Corporate Animals), Mindy Kaling (Late Night), Craig Robinson (Jay and Silent Bob Reboot), James Spader (The Blacklist) and Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt).

The six-episode first season received very mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike but as the series progressed it went on to earn rave reviews from both groups and would go on to win four Primetime Emmys and a Golden Globe for Carell’s performance and was a ratings hit for the network, with the series finale viewed by 5.69 million viewers live.

Netflix has held the domestic streaming rights for the series since its conclusion in 2013, but in a recent bidding war over the rights of the series from Universal Television, NBCUniversal came out victorious, having to pay $100 million per year for five years for a grand total of $500 million to stream the series on its upcoming streaming service.

The Office will be available to stream on Netflix until January 2021, when it will transition to the upcoming streaming service.
