Kathleen Turner & Michael Douglas reteam for The Kominsky Method
They were one of the most popular and celebrated on-screen duos in the ’80s after their first pairing on the acclaimed romantic adventure Romancing the Stone and now Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas are reuniting for the upcoming second season of the acclaimed Netflix comedy The Kominsky Method, according to Variety.
The sun isn’t setting yet on the once famous Sandy Kominsky and his longtime agent Norman Newlander. Academy Award Winners Michael Douglas (Kominsky) and Alan Arkin (Newlander) star as two friends tackling life’s inevitable curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that values youth and beauty. Both comedic and emotional, The Kominsky Method is an 8-episode, half-hour single-camera show created by 8-time Emmy Award Nominee Chuck Lorre.
Turner and Douglas’ flame will once again reunite as she has signed on to star as Ruth Baderman, Sandy’s ex-wife and Mindy (Sarah Baker)’s daughter and is described as Sandy’s second wife, who delights in still being able to push the buttons of her ex-husband. She is currently only attached to star in one episode of the second season
The character was originally set to be named Gabrielle and portrayed by Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge), but some behind the scenes creative changes brought the shift towards Turner’s character and casting.
Turner and Douglas first worked together on the adventure Romancing the Stone, which is about to celebrate its 35th anniversary this year, followed by its critically and commercially disappointing sequel The Jewel of the Nile and the acclaimed 1989 dark comedy The War of the Roses, which was also the third collaboration between them and Danny DeVito, who previously made an appearance in the first season of The Kominsky Method.
The Kominsky Method also features Nancy Travis, Sarah Baker and guest stars including Lisa Edelstein, Emily Osment, Graham Rogers, Ann-Margret, Jay Leno, Patti LaBelle, Ashleigh LaThorpe and more. The second season is also set to feature Jane Seymour (Wedding Crashers) and Paul Reiser (Stranger Things).
The series is written by Al Higgins, David Javerbaum and Chuck Lorre, who also directed the first episode. Lorre, Higgins and Michael Douglas executive produce the series which is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The Kominsky Method had its world premiere at AFI Fest on Saturday, November 10 in Los Angeles. The festival premiered the first three episodes of the series, which is the first scripted episodic to be presented as a Gala Screening at the festival. The show was nominated for three Golden Globes, winning two, and was selected as one of AFI’s TV Programs of the Year 2018. It also received two Critics’ Choice nominations.
