Poisonwood Bible is based on the novel by Barbara Kingsolver and will be adapted into a limited series. The story follows Orleanna Price, the wife of an evangelical missionary who takes her and their four daughters to the Belgian Congo in the midst of colonial upheaval in 1959. What follows is a suspenseful epic of tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction in the interlocked fates of one family and a newly independent African nation.

Kingsolver and Anya Epstein (The Affair, In Treatment) will co-write the series. The duo will also serve as executive producers alongside Adams and O’Neil.

Adams produced and starred in HBO’s limited series Sharp Objects, based on the novel by Gillian Glynn, last year. The actress recently wrapped filming on The Woman in the Window, Joe Wright’s feature adaptation of A.J. Finn’s novel, starring alongside Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, and Anthony Mackie. The crime-drama will arrive in theaters on October 4.
