From Sam Neill to Sydney’s Luxe Listings, Here’s a Guide to the Best Local Content Out Now

(In partnership with Foxtel)

We might just be in the golden age of Australian television right now: between the slate of international productions setting up on our shores and a batch of excellent home-grown series, Aussie TV has never been so prolific.

From prestige offerings starring Sam Neill to wholesome bake-offs, here are our top six picks of Aussie TV available to stream. And now, thanks to Foxtel teaming up with Prime, they’re all available on Foxtel, with their new dedicated Prime Video app. The unlikely pairing means that these excellent shows – and plenty more – are now in one place.

The Twelve

This long-awaited Aussie court drama is almost here, marking Sam Neill’s return to Australian TV as a judge overlooking a case of a woman accused of killing her niece, a child. The titular twelve refers to the jurors who must decide whether she’s innocent or guilty.

This Foxtel original is based on a critically adored Belgian series ‘De Twaalf’, and stars a heap of home-grown talent, like Marta Dusseldorp, Brooke Satchwell, Kate Mulvany, and Brendan Cowell. It will release on June 21 at 8:30 p.m. AEST, available On Demand on FOXTEL and on Fox Showcase. We can’t wait.

Nine Perfect Strangers

Nicole Kidman leads this mystery-thriller filmed in Byron Bay, about the secrets that unite nine strangers at a wellness retreat that may or may not be a cult. The show reunites Kidman with the creative heavy hitters behind Big Little Lies, creator David E. Kelley, and Aussie author Liane Moriarty, who wrote both books that the series is based on.

Aussie faves like Asher Keddie and Samara Weaving are paired with Hollywood A-listers like Melissa McCarthy and Michael Shannon in this intriguing show which has a second season coming. Check yourself into Tranquillum retreat.

Last One Laughing

If you haven’t seen LOL: Australia, you’re missing out on one of our funniest shows in years. The concept is basically Big Brother-meets-stand up, as host Rebel Wilson locks ten of our best comedians in an apartment for six hours — but if they laugh, they’re kicked out, with the last person standing winning $100,000. Frank Woodley, Nazeem Hussain, Anne Edmonds (AKA Helen Bidou), Becky Loucas, Sam Simmons, Susie Youssef, and more battle it out, often resorting to shock tactics to break one another. The best part? We’re allowed to laugh as much as we want.

Luxe Listings Sydney

This hit Amazon reality show about Sydney real estate agents recently dropped its second season and has a third on the way later this year. Extravagant houses, intra-real estate agent drama and endless hustle awaits — trust us, you’ll be obsessed.

Picnic At Hanging Rock

Turning one of Australia’s most beloved novels and films into a TV show is a big task, but this six-part Foxtel mini-series pulls it off. The adaptation adds new storylines and fleshed-out backstories to the classic tale of three schoolgirls who go missing on a Valentine’s Day trip to Hanging Rock in 1900, diving deeper into the themes and ideas around colonialism and Australian culture. A talented cast, including Game of Thrones’ and The Hunger Games’ Natalie Dormer, Yael Stone, Samara Weaving, and The Wheel Of Time’s Madeleine Madden, breathe new live into the classic.

Great Australian Bake Off

This Aussie take on the hit British baking competition returned this year after a short break, and it’s back better than ever. A dozen bakers took on some of our most beloved desserts, like pavlovas and lamingtons, judged by local legends like Maggie Beer and Matt Moran. It’s wholesome, sweet, and a little bit cheeky: save room for dessert!
