In the previous episodes of Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor, Dani learned that children were talking to the ghosts of Rebecca and Peter. In The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 7, Peter and Rebecca executed their plans for the children, in The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 8, we learned why ghosts are created at Bly, and in The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 9, the storyteller’s identity was revealed.

The Two Faces, Part Two

Peter revisited his memories as he had Dani tied up in the attic. After he’d died, he appeared to Rebecca in the Wingraves’ bedroom and convinced her that he was a ghost. Rebecca tried to carry him with her, but he couldn’t leave the property. She grew depressed, but Peter had a plan. While he had control over her body, he drowned Rebecca without her permission and forced them together.

They had convinced the children to let them take over their bodies permanently while keeping their consciousnesses occupied with memories of their parents. While Peter was successful, Rebecca told Flora what to say to convince him that Rebecca had taken over her as well. They released Dani, who tried to take Flora and escape. However, the blank-faced ghost from the lake grabbed Dani.

The Romance of Certain Clothes

The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 7, Episode 8, and Episode 9

This episode delved into the backstories of the woman from the lake, Viola Lloyd, and the other ghosts at Bly. Viola had manipulated a distant cousin, Arthur, into marrying her to keep Bly. However, she developed an illness that would kill her. Through her own stubbornness, she lived years beyond what the doctor predicted but was not allowed to see her child, Isabel. Her sister, Perdita, killed her to take her place. Before she died, Viola had locked up her fine clothes and jewelry for Isabel to have and made Arthur promise to keep them for her. Her spirit was locked away with that trunk of clothes. Perdita had opened the trunk, and Viola killed her. She was the ghost in the attic. Arthur and Isabel left Bly and threw the trunk in the lake. As the years went on, the ghost forgot herself and forgot why she looked for Isabel. She had killed a plague doctor and a little boy on her route through Bly.

Viola stopped dragging Dani to the lake and instead picked up Flora. Henry arrived, and Viola killed him. While Owen revived him, Jamie watched Dani confront Viola and take her into herself. Dani saved Flora and freed all the ghosts and Miles.

The Beast in the Jungle

The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 7, Episode 8, and Episode 9

Henry took Flora and Miles away from Bly. Dani and Jamie traveled together. Unfortunately, Dani could still feel Viola within her and knew that she’d overtake Dani eventually. Jamie and Dani spent years together in love. While they visited Owen at his restaurant in Paris, he told them that he’d seen the Wingraves, and the children, now teenagers, could hardly remember their time at Bly.

Eventually, Dani began seeing Viola again. She was losing control and almost strangled Jamie in her sleep. Dani left Jamie, who knew where to find her. She was dead at the bottom of the lake at Bly. At the end of the episode, it’s revealed that Jamie is the storyteller at Flora’s wedding.
