Lovecraft Country Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

Lovecraft Country Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

In the previous episode of HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Tic, Leti, and Montrose escaped Ardham Lodge when it collapsed from the Sons of Adam ritual, but George didn’t survive. In Lovecraft Country Season 1 Episode 3, Leti buys a boarding house, and Hippolyta is distant with Tic.

Strength in Numbers

Leti brought Ruby to see a rundown, three-story house. She’d purchased it and wanted to turn it into a boarding house and haven for black people. As they moved in, Leti took pictures of everyone helping out. However, the white neighbors terrorized them. They left their cars in front, horns blaring, and messed with the boiler. During their housewarming party, someone set fire to a cross on the yard. Tic dressed in his uniform and stood watch on the porch. However, after seeing Leti dance with another man, he went after her and had sex with her. It was her first time.

With a baseball bat, Leti smashed the car windows to get the honking to stop. Ruby drove off with the guns and bats. When the cops came, they arrested Leti. In the paddy wagon, a cop interrogated her about buying the Winthrop house. He told her that bodies of eight dismembered black people had been found in the room under the basement. The driver drove erratically, thrashing Leti around in the back.

Lovecraft Country Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

The Winthrop house was haunted. Leti developed the pictures she had taken and found lines in the middle of them. After lining them up by arranging the photos on the ground, a figure rose up and yelled at her to get out. Leti told Tic about the eight dead people. In the photos, she saw images of them and was able to match them up with missing people from the South Side. She believed the previous owner of the house, Epstein, had killed them by experimenting on them.

Leti brought a priestess in to cleanse the house. While they completed the ritual in the basement, three white men broke in with bats. The house killed them. Epstein possessed the priestess and Tic. His eight victims helped Leti banish him from the house before fading away. Days later, a journalist interviewed Leti about the boarding house. She asked off the record about the three missing neighbors, but Leti didn’t know anything about it. The three bodies were in a hidden room under the basement.

Invulnerability

Tic approached Christina Braithwaite, who walked into an empty realtist’s office. He pulled a gun on her but couldn’t do anything. She indicated she had an invulnerability spell on her. Though Leti believed the money she bought the house with was an inheritance from her mother, Christina was responsible. Winthrop was part of the Sons of Adam and held the key to their spells.

Tic had been staying with Hippolyta and Dee for a few weeks after George’s funeral. He’d worn out his welcome. Hippolyta told Montrose that she could tell there was something about George’s death that they weren’t telling her. She had seen his body, but they told her the sheriff had killed him.
