Altered Carbon Season 2 Episode 5 and Episode 6 Recap
In the previous episodes of Netflix’s Altered Carbon, Takeshi realized that Quellcrist was killing the Harlan’s World founders. In Altered Carbon Season 2 Episode 5, Jaeger spun up an older version of Takeshi, and in Altered Carbon Season 2 Episode 6, we learned the truth about the Quellists.
Escaping the City
Takeshi found Quellcrist at The Nevermore. Trepp helped smuggle her out of the city. Footage of her had been released to the public. Trepp stopped at her father’s place for supplies. While alone with Trepp, Quell asked her to shoot her with lethal ammo if she started to lose herself. Takeshi brought them to an abandoned mine that became the Stronghold to help trigger Quell’s memory. After arguing with Takeshi, Quell started to lose herself again, and Trepp tried to shoot her. Takeshi stopped her, but Quell ran off to a hidden part of the Stronghold that triggered her memories.
The Old Takeshi
Jaeger spun up a backup of Takeshi in a clone of his birth sleeve. Double-sleeving was a capital crime, and Jaeger encouraged the old Takeshi to hunt the new one. They questioned Dig and went to the Stronghold. He was to kill the original Takeshi and bring back Quell’s stack. The two Takeshis fought, with the backup throwing the original off a cliff. Fortunately, his sleeve had built in survival instincts that kept him clinging for life unconsciously.
Meanwhile, the old Takeshi found Quell. He tried to convince her to trust him under Jaeger’s watch. She tricked him into following her to the place she awoke after Reileen betrayed her, under a songspire. Quell showed him what Reileen did to her.
Joshua Kemp and the Quellists saved Takeshi Prime and Trepp in the woods from the Wedge. They found Quell and the other Takeshi, who had been fighting. The Quellists performed the Ascertainment to determine if Quellcrist was truly her. She passed, knowing a Kemp family secret. He welcomed her into the Quellists. However, when Trepp asked Kemp about her brother, Anil, he pretended not to know who he was. Trepp had recognized his stack, emblazoned with her family crest, hanging from a chain on his neck.
Poe went to the Renouncers to find Konrad Harlan. However, he realized it had all been a lie. He used his glitch to infect the construct.
Danica Harlan had released the footage of Quellcrist to provoke the council into giving her more power. After the motion passed, she placed them under house arrest for their “protection”. She found Jaeger, who was watching over the Takeshi backup. They all learned that Joshua Kemp was working for Danica Harlan. Danica had orchestrated the dispute with the Quellists the whole time strengthen her power. She used the fact that Jaeger double-sleeved Takeshi to keep him in line.
