Catch-22 Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

Catch-22 Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

In the previous episode of Hulu’s Catch-22, Clevinger went missing in action, and Minderbinder roped Cathcart into his schemes. In Catch-22 Season 1 Episode 3, YoYo tried to stop the Bologna mission.

Lux Laundry Flakes

The upcoming Bologna mission worried YoYo. He convinced Minderbinder to put laundry flakes in the tomato soup and instructed his friends not to eat it. He successfully postponed the mission since the whole infantry became ill. Unfortunately, instead of getting ground support for the mission like he had hoped, the troops were rerouted because the infantry had to postpone.

McWatt pointed out the futility of YoYo’s actions, since he was only delaying the inevitable. McWatt had accepted that he was going to die, so he would be happy until he eventually did die. Since YoYo hadn’t accepted it yet, he would be stressed until he died.

The Bomb Line

Catch-22 Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

YoYo went to Major to see what he learned from reading the manual. After Towser denied him entrance, he came in through the office window. YoYo believed that Major had the power sign whatever form that kept him from flying. He explained how the bomb line terrified him and pointed out that it was just a piece of string on a map. In the middle of the night, YoYo snuck into the briefing tent and moved the bomb line so that Bologna appeared to have been captured.

The officers believed that because the bomb line had been moved, the US had somehow captured Bologna in the night. Major de Coverley went to Bologna to requisition a building that had a Nazi banner hanging on it. He stumbled upon a group of Nazis in the middle of a briefing and was captured. Cathcart berated the entire infantry for moving the bomb line and increased the quota from 40 to 50.

M&M Enterprises

Catch-22 Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

Milo arrived on the base with German pilots flying German cargo planes. The Germans were part of the syndicate that he was putting together as much as Cathcart and the base. Unfortunately, the soldiers on the runway weren’t told and pointed guns at him, despite Minderbinder’s paperwork. Cathcart arrived to tell them to stand down. Milo’s young Italian employees arrived to paint the M&M Enterprises logo on the sides of the planes.

Baked Alaska

Catch-22 Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

During the Bologna mission, the intercom in the plane stopped working. YoYo insisted that they had to turn back and abort mission since he couldn’t do his job. McWatt resisted at first but turned back. At dinner, Cathcart celebrated a job well done by having Milo serve Baked Alaska to everyone except YoYo’s table. Cathcart harangued them for their cowardice as McWatt explained why they turned back.

While the guys were relaxing on a platform in the water, McWatt playfully flew low toward them. With the rest of the guys in the water, Kid Sampson jokingly challenged McWatt, who flew towards him. Unfortunately, he couldn’t pull up fast enough and flew right into Kid Sampson. With blood and guts all over the front of his plane, McWatt turned off his engine and glided his plane into the side of a cliff.
