This Is Us Season 3 Episode 14 Recap

In the previous episode of NBC’s This Is Us, Beth decided to start teaching dance. In This Is Us season 3 episode 14, Randall explored letting Deja skip a grade, and Toby threw Kate a graduation.

Grief Support

The Big Three graduated high school shortly after Jack’s death, while Rebecca was still grieving. Jack had believed taking video of the kids was important, so Rebecca tried picking out a new one before the ceremony. A single dad she knew helped her decide but asked her out afterwards.

Before Randall’s graduation, she broke down in front of Miguel. He offered to take video and suggested she go to a support group. Kate didn’t want to go to her and Kevin’s graduation. She stayed home and watched home movies.

While the kids were at a party that night, Rebecca watched a home movie featuring her and Jack. She called Miguel to take her to a grief support group. At the party, Randall wondered if the three of them would continue to be close. He told them it was only if they made an effort to be in each other’s lives.

The Commence-Mint

This Is Us Season 3 Episode 14 Recap

Kate completed the credits she needed for her degree, so Toby threw her and the three other graduates a graduation ceremony. Rebecca flew out to be there.

Kevin left early to drink all day. Kate sensed something was wrong, so she found him with empty bottles in his hotel room. She wanted him to tell Zoe, but he worried she would leave him. Kate drove him to an AA meeting and made him promise to get a sponsor.

Her water broke while in the car, but it was too soon. Kevin called Toby and told him they needed an ambulance since he couldn’t drive her. Randall flew out to be with them.

Routine

This Is Us Season 3 Episode 14 Recap

Deja left school because other kids were calling her “Pontiac”. Her teacher, Ms. Cunningham, had posted her personal essay online without her consent. The essay was about living with her mother in their car. Randall talked to Ms. Cunningham, who told him she and Deja’s other teachers believed Deja could skip to high school.

When Randall talked to Deja about it, she didn’t want to skip eighth grade. She liked the stability of her routine. When Beth came home from teaching her dance classes, Randall told her he thought she should get a regular job for a while to ensure that stability remains. Beth felt that she shouldn’t have to put her dream on hold again while Randall got to live his.
