In the previous episode of Netflix’s Russian Doll, Nadia learned to avoid the stairs and discovered Max’s joint contained ketamine. In Russian Doll season 1 episode 3, Nadia obsessed over the history of Max and Lizzy’s building.

Nadia woke up on Lizzy and Max’s couch with John’s jacket covering her. Outside, Nadia noticed the sign in Hebrew on the building. She asked Max and Lizzy to tell her what it said, and Max identified it as the name of the congregation that was there. Nadia headed to a location on 14th, but the rabbi’s assistant, Shifra, wouldn’t let her in by herself to see the rabbi. She spoke to John on the phone and offered him a blowjob if he met her there for a real estate emergency.

When John arrived, Nadia had a list of questions ready. She brought John inside and introduced him as her husband. He went in to see the rabbi and asked him if the building had a history of being haunted. The rabbi told him that people are haunted, not buildings.

John told the rabbi about his history with Nadia. His ex-wife had kicked him out when he found out about Nadia, and Nadia dumped him because it was too much pressure. Afterwards, John went to Nadia’s, and they had sex. She kicked him out after he tried to get back together with her.

Nadia left and got drunk in the park while looking for Oatmeal. She met the homeless man, Horse, and she let him cut her hair. Horse didn’t have shoes because someone had stolen them at the homeless shelter the night before. He refused to go back there. Nadia curled up with Horse under his blanket for the night. She woke up in Max’s bathroom. Nadia had frozen to death.

When Nadia came to in the bathroom, she left the party for the homeless shelter. She found Horse and was determined to watch over his shoes the entire night. Sure enough, she prevented their theft.

In the elevator on the way to her code review meeting, the elevator lost power, and everyone in it started to plunge to their deaths. Nadia and one other man didn’t seem fazed. He told her that he died all the time.
