Outlander Season 4 Episode 12 Recap

In the previous episode of Starz’s Outlander, Roger arrived at Shadow Lake, the militia captured Murtagh and Stephen Bonnet, and Brianna and Lord John Grey became engaged. In Outlander season 4 episode 12, Brianna wanted to see Bonnet, while Fergus and Marsali acted like Jamie and Claire would.

What Would Jamie and Claire do?

Fergus and a few Regulators wanted to save Murtagh and break him out of jail. Marsali saw Fergus planning it out and encouraged him to go through with the plan. They took inspiration from Jamie and Claire, since Claire risked her life to break Jamie out of Wentworth prison. They readied the wagons for an escape to Fraser’s Ridge. The Regulators laid down gunpowder to blow up the jail, and Marsali stood by with the wagon for a quick getaway.

Outlander Season 4 Episode 12 Recap

John told Brianna about Stephen Bonnet’s arrest and death sentence. Brianna wanted to talk to him. Jamie’s letter urged her against revenge, and she wanted to forgive him. The militia allowed them inside with Tryon’s permission.

Brianna wanted to see him alone. Bonnet didn’t know her name, but recognized her face. She forgave him and showed him that she was pregnant. Brianna assured him that a part of him would live on, but her baby would never know him. Bonnet gave her a gem from his mouth to pay for his well-being.

As she left, she saw Murtagh in the next cell. Fergus and the Regulators were executing their plan at the same time. Fergus and John recognized each other. Fergus and Murtagh escaped in the wagon, while John and Brianna covered for them. However, Bonnet might have survived the jail explosion. He had grabbed the keys moments before.

Outlander Season 4 Episode 12 Recap

Roger would remain captive at Shadow Lake. The Mohawk called him Ehhaokonsah, or “dog face” for his beard. A healer, Joheihon, gave him leaves to chew on for pain, and she held a light-skinned baby in her arms. Roger was instructed to bring logs, but he offended Kaheroton by pointing. Joheihon urged Kaheroton to be understanding.

Kaheroton put Roger in a hut with another European man, Father Alexandre Ferigault. Chief Tehwahsekwe had invited him to the village to preach to the Mohawk. He fell in love with Joheihon and fathered her child. While the Mohawk accepted them, they punished Father Alexandre for not baptizing the baby. He believed that his sin would condemn the baby if he baptized him.

While the Mohawk tortured Father Alexandre after he refused again, Roger started digging a way out of the hut. When Father Alexandre was brought back, Roger urged him to stop being an idiot and save himself. The Mohawk had given Father Alexandre until the morning to decide. If he refused again, they would place his feet in fire until the pain killed him. They continued digging the tunnel, but by morning it wasn’t big enough. Father Alexandre accepted his fate, so Roger could have the opportunity to escape. Roger had successfully runaway, but the priest’s screams had him running back. He threw a barrel of alcohol into the fire, so it would instantly kill Father Alexandre. Joheihon put her baby down and walked into the fire to die with him.
